Gigi Bix: Leading with Purpose and Inspiring Change

Hello! My name is Gigi Bix.  I am from Marysville, OH, and will be a sophomore at the Ohio State University majoring in Public Affairs. On campus, I am involved in my A Cappella group, The Ohio State of Mind, President of an education policy club known as Students for Better Schools and Futures, as well as Fundraising Chair of ACLU OSU. Throughout each of these experiences, I have been able to tap into my personal leadership style, which excites me to join the Leaders of Today Board. 

Leadership is an inside job; it is a skill that is not learned, but fostered. I have been fortunate enough to have taken part in various leadership experiences that have shaped me as a leader and as a person. As a Public Affairs major, I aspire to not only lead, but to invite others to join me. To me, this is the most true testament of becoming a leader. My mission lines up well with the mission of Leaders of Today; to help local students tap into their passions, and make Central Ohio a safe place. 

Throughout my whole life, I have been told that I am mature for my age. I would be the first one to answer the questions in class, the consecutive student council representative starting in 5th grade, involved in the theatrical arts at my school, and was never afraid to laugh out loud. I have always been confident in who I am as a person; it has translated well to my leadership style and why I am pursuing a career in policy. Jordan Reeves, Executive Director, saw this potential in me, and has made an effort to mentor me ever since. I met Jordan during my time at Central Ohio Leadership Academy back in 2022. I knew I wanted to learn more about the non-profit he had started from scratch, and from there I met his wonderful team and Board that is continuously making a difference in the community. 

​ Leaders of Today has allowed me to expand my horizons. I have been involved in developing a wider social media presence and connecting with other leaders in the community. 

In order to learn, you have to grow. In order to grow, you have to be okay with being uncomfortable. Leaders of Today has challenged me to grow, as a leader and as a person. Something I love about the organization is that all the people involved within it challenge me. They are all ambitious, and are determined to change the world. Being in this environment makes me more determined to follow my dreams. I am excited to see what is to come!
